Yachts in Martinica

Martinique is an island of mountainous and volcanic origin and thus, it is ideal for mountain sports. It is a French overseas department. The capital is Fort-de-France with 100,000 inhabitants. The only commercial airport in Martinique is in Lamentin, 9 kilometres east of Fort-de-France, is ten minutes from the capital and about twenty of Pointe du Bout.
The most important active volcano is the Mont Pelee, 1463 metres high, which in 1902 became sadly notorious because it erupted and destroyed Saint-Pierre, one of the major cities of the island.

Like most Caribbean islands, Martinica is ideal for tourists, whether they go to the white sand beaches of the south, or the black sand beaches in the north, the small bays where you can dive, swimming, fishing, visiting reefs or the hot springs, hike the mountains, appreciate the beautiful flowers such as lilacs, orchids, or to taste tropical fruits such as coconuts, pineapples and papayas. Salines Beach is the most beautiful of Martinique, surrounded by coconut palms.

In the southwest coast are the best white or golden sand beaches, the best place for bathing and swimming. The beaches of black and grey sand of the northeast coast are often more dangerous. In the area of Trois-Ilets, there are the crowded beaches of Anse-à-l'Ane and Anse Mitan. Among the best known beaches of the eastern coast are Macabou and Cap Chevalier, to the south, and the ones of the peninsula Caravelle de Anse l’Étang and Tartane.
