French Polynesia is an overseas collectivity of France in the southern Pacific Ocean. It consists of several groups of Polynesian islands, the best known and most highly populated of which is Tahiti, one of the Society Islands and home to Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia.
French Polynesia comprises the Austral Islands, the Bass Islands (often considered to be part of the Austral Islands), the Gambier Islands, the Marquesas Islands, the Society Islands and the Tuamotu Archipelago.
French Polynesia’s main islands and atolls include Bora Bora, Hiva’Oa, Huahine, Maiao, Maupiti, Mehetia, Moorea, Nuku Hiva, Raiatea, Tahaa, Tetiaroa, Tubuai and Tupai.
