Sail Yacht in Syros
Syros forms part of the Ciclades, in the Aegean Sea. It lies 78 nautical miles (144 Km.) south of Athens. The island comprises the municipalities of Ermoupoli, Ano Syros, and Poseidonia. Ermoupoli is the capital of the island, and of the Ciclades. It has always been an important city port.
The countryside is mountainous and dry, especially the northern part, while the south is flat and fertile. It is surrounded by tiny bays and capes, with the great gulf of Finicas to the west, and of Hermopolis to the east. Between these bays the most spectacular beaches and coves are found.
The island has a typical Mediterranean climate: hot summers and fresh winters, especially in the mountains.
