Sail Yacht in Sao Vicente

The island of Sao Vicente is a municipality of Cabo Verde with a surface area of 227 km². From east to west it measures 24 kilometres while from north to south it is rather narrower, no more than 16 kilometres. This makes it the seventh largest, and the fourth smallest of the islands. Despite its volcanic origin, it is rather flat, especially in the middle part, the eastern zone of Calhau, and in the north around Baía das Gatas.

Sao Vicente, whose capital is Mindelo, has a population of around 90,000 people, and includes the island of Sao Vicente and the neighbouring one of Santa Luzia, of Barlovento. In the capital one finds enjoyment and distraction, here being home to an infinity of artists of all kinds.

This cultural island, therefore, is well known as the home of one of its most famous singers, Cesárea Évora. Cultural events do not go missing here, these including several music festivals, like the one celebrated in Baida das Gatas (in the August fullmoon), local fiestas, Carnival, theatre festival in Mindelo etc.

In all these islands, apart from beach tourism, one can find alternative offers such as water sports, from swimming and windsurfing to fishing, adventure sports, and nature. The climate is dry tropical: around 24ºC mean air temperature. Sea temperature varies between 12ºC and 25ºC.
