Aabenraa is an exciting and active town, with a difference. Flanked by hills and woods, and with a panoramic view of the Aabenraa Fiord, its setting is unbeatable.

Duke Valdemar conceded a municipal card in 1335. From humble beginnings as a small fishing town, Aabenraa turned into a thriving city in the 18th and 19th centuries. Her boats sailed around the world, returning with unusual and valuable cargos, especially from the East. Aabenraa boasts many beautiful old houses, including the grand captains mansion on the Highland Peninsula, all constructed during this period, which testify to the prosperity generated by these voyages.

Aabenraa in Denmark has the biggest port in the area and is a cultural centre as well as a centre of commerce and industry. The city has a splendid atmosphere with many shops, among the best in Denmark, and one of the longest and most attractive walking streets in the country.
