San Remo lies on the Mediterranean coast of western Liguria, in the northwest of Italy, on the Gulf of Genova.

San Remo, an outstanding tourist centre, is renowned for its flower market, and its fishing port. Every year it hosts the San Remo Song Festival.

The placement of the city on the seashore allows for a temperate climate. The waters of the Ligurian Sea, and the gusts of warm air blowing in from Africa warm the winters, although occasionally a colder wind from the Atlantic may penetrate. The summers are quite warm with an average temperature of 25ºC to 28ºC.
