Malé, the capital of the Republic of the Maldives, lies on the island of Malé, on the southern edge of the Kaafu atoll. It is the seat of government and the centre of business, commerce, finance, health and education. A hydroplane park and boat anchorage are found on the island.
Malé is the commercial centre for trade in coconuts, coconut fibre, palms, copra and shells. The international airport of Malé is situated on the neighbouring island of Hulhule. The city is divided in four areas: Henveiru, Galolhu, Maafannu and Machangolhi.
It has a hot and wet tropical climate with around 2000 mm of annual rainfall.
