Boats in Slovenia
Slovenia is thought to be one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Pure and unsullied, it is called “the green treasure of Europe”. Situated between Austria, Hungary, Italy and the neighbouring Croatia, it has a population of two million inhabitants. Its varied territory is home to five different regions. It is one of Europe’s smallest countries (20.253 square kilometres)
As a former province of Yugoslavia, it proclaimed independence in 1991. With its Adratic coastline and various lakes and rivers, water sports are here very popular. To the East the Alps offer magnificent chances for hiking and skiing. The capital city, Liubliana, nestling at the foot of a castle is a vibrant and young city with an active artistic life, fiestas, and an extraordinary architecture that contains element from Renaissance up to Art Nouveau. The capital acts as cultural centre of the country.. Maribor possesses an important renaissance-style old town, and Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian city, has one of the most traditional and enigmatic Carnivals in the World. Other interesting places include the roman remains at Sempter, the Venetian loggia of Koper harbour, and Piran, home of the violinist and compose, Giuseppe Tarini.
The first impression of any visitor to this country is the green and beautifully preserved countryside and the clear water of its lakes, all of which speak of the results of the campaigns in favour of the environment and the conservation of the natural beauty. Eslovenia is the meeting ground for the Alps, the belt of the Dinaric Alps and the Panonic Plain. Thus it reunites the conditions for a Mediterranean climate, an alpine climate, and a moderate continental climate.
Thanks to its mountains it boasts a great number of winter resorts, which are progressively attracting more skiers, such as those near the towns of Bled, Planica, Kobla, or that of the most important in Kranjska Gora, or those in the Potlorje Plateau ( GTC Kope, Slovenj Gradec) all having plentiful lifts and good illumination for night skiing.
Slovenia is a mountainous country, a prolongation of Carinthia in Austria, with a cold climate in keeping with its high altitude, with chalk relieves and abundant forests. The coastline, protected from the cold winds of the interior, enjoys a Mediterranean climate. The mean temperatures for zones are: In the interior, July 20-22ºC, January 0-2ºC; on the coast July 22-24ºC, January 2-4ºC; in the mountains, July 15-19ºC, January –2-0ºC.
