Miami is one of the major cities of Miami-Dade. It lies in the south east of Florida, on the Miami River, between the everglades and the Atlantic Ocean.

The city of Miami is one of the most important tourist destinations in the States. Many of the people you will find here have arrived from Central America and the Caribbean, and have decided to make lasting roots here, as due in part to its geographical situation; they have prospered with small companies ranging through all kinds of products.
The capital, which numbers 17 million inhabitants, and is divided in 67 councils, shows little topographical variety, as there are only a few small hills in the northern part. The southern part is lowest, and a great deal of the land is only one or two metres above sea level. It has many swampy areas called the “everglades”. Florida is the southernmost State of the United States territory, and the nearest to the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
The majority of the people who choose Miami as their destiny, move among the beaches, the clubs and the bars. But Miami is much more than a simple tourist destination, and here one can appreciate one of the most amazing examples of Art Deco. In the heart of the South Beach area, one finds a mixture of various coloured buildings dating from the 1920’s, whose conservation and renovation were one of the main reasons for the revival of the city.
Little Havana, people mainly by Cuban immigrants, is an interesting zone to visit. Its main street, Calle Ocho, is full of Cuban shops, cafés, music boutiques, clothes shops, and other varied businesses. South of Miami, along the Biscayne Bay, the visitor can find the most important attractions of the city.
If there is one thing that characterizes Miami, it is the warmth of her climate. Summers are hot and humid. June is the wettest month, with an average of more than 9 inches, and a temperature that moves between 24ºC and 31ºC. August is the hottest month, with temperatures between 25ºC and 31ºC, which is not much higher than other months, but with a humidity of almost 90%, makes it very hot. On the other hand the winters tend toward lower temperatures than those of the summer, but at around 15ºC, they make this season the most adequate for visitors.
