Catamaran charter with skipper

If you don’t have a sailing licence or the one you have isn’t valid for the type of catamaran you’ve chosen, you can charter a catamaran with skipper.

With catamarans of long length overall, considered luxurious in many cases, a crew is often hired as well (chef, sailor and attendant).

What does hiring a skipper entail?

The base directly hires the skipper and normally you must pay an additional fee for this service on the day of boarding. The skipper is part of the crew and you are responsible for his keep during the entire trip. The skipper is in charge of making the trip a pleasant one: he will take you to the best coves, anchor in the most suitable areas, take you to shore with the auxiliary boat and watch over the safety of all the passengers on the boat. You should understand that shopping for provisions, preparing meals and cleaning the boat are not his obligations.
Some skippers prefer to use one of the cabins in the catamaran while others are fine with sleeping in the saloon. However, some customers prefer the skipper use a cabin in order to maintain privacy between the group and the skipper. Whether you choose one option or the other depends on your budget. Having an additional cabin for the skipper reduces space for the group and you may have to charter a catamaran with a greater length overall.

At the time of boarding, the skipper will show you a map with the possible itineraries you may choose in the area; however, the weather conditions forecasted for the time period you’ve chartered the catamaran will always be taken into account. The itinerary can obviously be modified or changed according to your preferences but only with the authorisation of the skipper, who is the ultimate authority figure aboard the boat.
