Do you want to spend your holiday navigating in Mallorca on a rental catamaran?

From Topsailingcharter  we want to help you discover this island. In this article you will find a description of it, following the landscape features and maritime facilities. So we have decided to divide the island into three main navigation areas. Let’s see them briefly:

North of Mallorca is characterized by the Serra de Tramontana – a rather steep coast with few refuges for our boat. Nevertheless, here you can admire some of the most stunning bays of the island, as Sa Calobra with cliffs on each side. As for us, surely you have to visit the Puerto de Sóller – an authentic and unique haven on the coast. Otherwise we should not forget that this part of the island is receiving more intensive Tramontana and if you have trouble navigating through it we will ship with serious pitch to leeward.

Northeast and Northwest: The western part of the island, stretching from the Dragonera to Palma Bay, has a similar landscape of the north coast. Here a fascinating port Andratx is located. We will not find another shelter until we will pass  the Cala Figuera, and entering the bay of Palma. In this area the weather reports are strongly influenced by the proximity to the mainland, although others, such as the famous Embat, (a strong wind of the Bahia de Palma) is caused by the local geographical features of this bay.

The northeastern part of the island is famous for its two bays, Pollença and Alcúdia, two large inlets with shallow sandy seabed. We have to navigate watching the depth sounder. Here we can find some coves to anchor and also a major port, world-known Alcudia. Moreover, it is usually well protected from all winds, except Levante and some other strong winds. During summer the winds are usually light or moderate and of thermal origin.

South of the Island: Cabrera Port is one of the places that should not be missed in this part of the island. It is a natural harbor that was declared a natural reserve, with precious seabed. We have to reserve a docking place in advance. But rest assured that it is worth the effort.

Finally, we have to get acquainted with the southeastern part of the island, and Puerto Colom as its main sightseeing. In this area you will find some fine sandy beaches with turquoise water, like Cala Millor or Costa dels Pins. You can also anchor in small coves, such as Formentor and Cala Gat Creek.

Remember, if you want to navigate in Mallorca on a hired catamaran, Topsailingcharter will help you to organize an unforgettable holiday.
