Our starting point will be the port of Palma, the capital of the island and the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. This is the largest and most important port of the more than 40 ports on the island. It currently covers an extensive stretch of coastline between Moll Vell (Old Pier), opposite the cathedral, and the west dike (next to the Porto Pi quarter). A large part of the immense float of boat charters on the island is concentrated here. The port is also used for the transport of freight and passengers, fishing boats and military vessels. Our first few hours cruising in a sailing boat or yacht charter will take us to Portals Vells, a town in the municipality of Calviá and west of Palma, where four coves of crystalline waters and fine white sand await.

Surrounded by lush pine forest, the area of Portals Vells is known for its stones which were used to construct the Santa Maria Cathedral of Palma. In the side of the cliff, you can still see the three entrances to an immense cave. These entrances or giant portals gave the place its name. This is the perfect spot to anchor our sailing boat charter (or any other type of vessel) as there is a small port offering all kinds of services just a few metres away. We will most likely think that Portals Vells is paradise on earth, but our boat trip has just begun and we still have many other paradises to discover over the next few days, such as Port d’Andraitx where we will moor our catamaran or yacht charter and spend the second night of our journey.

Located in the southwestern corner of the island, Port d’Andraitx has remained hidden from the majority of tourist tour operators and is therefore away from the crowds. Its cosmopolitan and upbeat feel make it an ideal place to go shopping, enjoy dinner with friends on a seaside terrace or go out and have some drinks. The port is surrounded by small coves with rocky sea floors, such as Cala Llamps or Cala Marmassen, where we will definitely feel like anchoring so we can go swimming or snorkelling. Cala Fonoll, sandwiched between two cliffs, is also worth visiting. From Port Andraitx, we will cruise 38 miles to the east until we reach Cabrera Island, the largest island in the Cabrera Archipelago, located in front of the southern coast of Majorca.

The military has been present in Cabrera since 1916 and has prevented tourism from invading this area. Therefore, this privileged ecosystem has been well preserved and has been a Sea-Land National Park since 1991. After anchoring off its coasts, we can enjoy the landscape and just relax observing the wide variety of sea birds, or we can go for a dip and explore the underwater caves and the riches of the sea floor. If you want to visit Cabrera with your own boat or a charter boat, you will need an authorization issued by the park administration which TopSailingCharter will be more than happy to take care of.

On our fifth day aboard, we will wake up in Platja d'es Carbó, located less than one kilometre from Colònia de Sant Jordi, opposite the islet of Na Moltona. The fact that the beach can only be accessed on foot from Colònia de Sant Jordi or Cabo de Ses Salines Lighthouse prevents a massive influx of beachgoers. In fact, getting here by sea is the best option, although we have to take extreme precautions if we decide to anchor our sailing boat charter here (or any other boat we've chartered) because 250 metres away from shore there is a depth of only 2.5 metres which leads down to a sandy and algae-filled sea floor. Let’s continue our adventure exploring Majorca in catamaran or sailing boat by skirting the southern coast of the island. Our next stop will be the marina of Sa Rápita, a coastal town of low single-family homes which we can visit in the evening if we are feeling up to it. Just before we arrive in the port, we will visit s'Arenal de Sa Ràpita Beach, a beautiful stretch of sandy shores 1400 meters long that is open to the sea and surrounded by dunes and pine trees. If we are lucky and the wind blows, lovers of surf can spend some time here on the board.

Cala Pi is the most sheltered stretch of sandy shore on this part of the Majorcan coast. Indeed, to access the beach from the sea, we have to go inland half a kilometre between two vertical walls more than 30 metres high. We will have cliffs and pine trees on our left and a 16th century defense tower and a housing development on our right. If we’ve chartered a bareboat, we must keep in mind that near the entrance there are three rocks port side, so we need to enter through the middle if we want to anchor. In addition, keep in mind that when the wind blows from the south, it's very difficult to get out.

The last day of our itinerary takes us back to Palma, the vibrant capital of the Balearic Islands, where this adventure began. After days of sailing through the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean, exploring hidden coves, peaceful islands, and charming ports, it’s time to return our rental boat to the base at the marina.
This day offers the perfect chance to enjoy Palma’s unique atmosphere one last time, with its stunning cathedral, historic buildings, and lively seaside vibe. Take a stroll through the old town, enjoy a final meal with sea views, or pick up some souvenirs before saying goodbye to this Mediterranean paradise.

Though the journey comes to an end, the memories of this unforgettable trip, filled with natural beauty, relaxation, and unique moments, will stay with us long after we’ve returned to port. Until the next adventure!
